How to Acquire Wisdom

The book of Proverbs compiles numerous short instructions teaching all who read it how to live a victorious life, and no matter how many times I read the varied life principles in this book, and how to apply them to my 21st Century life I have yet to exhaust the wisdom and knowledge of this great book of the Bible.

In my never ending attempt to acquire wisdom I have chosen to highlight Proverbs chapter 3 verses 1-12 which speaks on how to obtain some of the very wisdom I seek.

Proverbs 3:1-2

1. Do not forget the Lord’s teaching; let your heart keep his principles because they (the Word of God) will increase your length of days, years of life and overall well being.  Put another way: “a long peace filled life!”

Proverbs 3:3-4

2. Let faithful love (kindness) and constancy (truth/loyalty) never leave you.  Wear them as a necklace around your neck, cementing faithful love in your heart.  This will bring you favor and success in God’s eyes and in the eyes of people.

Proverbs 3:5-6

3. Put all your trust in God and put no faith in your own perception.  In other words, don’t trust your own understanding.  Also, acknowledge God in everything you do and He will make your path straight/smooth/plain.

Proverbs 3:7-8

4. Don’t congratulate yourself on your own wisdom (don’t be wise in your own eyes); truly and sincerely fear God and turn your back on evil because the fear of the Lord will be health to your body (it will glow with new life) and relief/moistening/marrow to your bones (it will vibrate with new life).

Proverbs 3:9-10

5. Honor God with everything you have and with the first fruits of all your increase and your barns will be filled with plenty and your vats will over flow with new wine!

Proverbs 3:11-12

6. Never, ever scorn correction from God. Do not resent his reproof.  He chastens those He love the same way a parent chastens a child they love.
